Falcons Fall to Bullets in Slugfest

GRANTHAM, Pa. – The Messiah Softball team was in action today for their final home game of the regular season as they welcomed the Bullets of Gettysburg College to town for a single game. In what became a slugfest, the Bullets scored eight runs in the first two innings, but the Falcons came back to take a 9-8 lead. After Gettysburg retook the lead, Rebekah Wiley hit a two-run homerun to give the Falcons a 12-11 lead in the fifth. However, Gettysburg would score two runs in the sixth and hold on to win 13-12. Rebekah Wiley had two hits and three RBIs, including her first career homerun. Fallon Feaser had two hits and three RBIs, while Brielle Rosario added two hits with two RBIs.
 
Up next, the Falcons close out the season on the road with a doubleheader at Alvernia University on Sunday, Apr. 26, at 1:00 p.m.

The Bullets offense came out of the gate hot, scoring four runs on four hits io the top of the first. After two quick outs to start the bottom of the first, Fallon Feaser got on base with a two-out single. Allie Book walked to give Messiah two base runners, and Rebekah Wiley got the Falcons on the board with an RBI-single to right field. Josi Tolentino then reached on an error that scored Book, making it 4-2, Gettysburg.
 
Gettysburg used another four-run inning in the top of the second to make it 8-2. Ashley Bryant led off the second with a single and was then pinch ran for by Mia Libby. Ava Fair walked, and then Brielle Rosario doubled into left to score Libby. Lucy Murphy grounded out to score Fair, which was quickly followed by an error that allowed Rosario to score, making it 8-5. Allie Book added a single in the inning, but Messiah couldn't add another run.
 
Fallon Feaser entered the circle in the third and pitched a scoreless frame for the Falcons. McKenna Bunting singled to start the third and Ashley Bryant reached on an error to give the Falcons two baserunners. Ava Fair singled to load the bases before Brielle Rosario singled to shortstop to score a run and keep the bases loaded. Fallon Feaser then singled through the middle to score two runs, tying the game, before advancing to second to allow another run to cross the plate to give Messiah a 9-8 lead.
 
Gettysburg retook the lead in the top of the fourth, scoring three runs on four hits. McKenna Bunting doubled in the bottom half of the inning, but the Falcons failed to score.
 
After a scoreless fifth for the Bullets offense, Lucy Murphy got on base with a one-out single in the bottom of the fifth. After the Falcons second out, Allie Book sent an RBI-double to center field to score Murphy, making it 11-10. Rebekah Wiley then sent a deep fly ball over the left field wall for a two-run homerun, which was the first of her career, to give the Falcons a 12-11 lead.
 
The Bullets responded well, scoring two runs in the sixth to regain their advantage, making it 13-12. The Bullets then used two relief pitchers to see out the game in the sixth and seventh to hold on to a 13-12 win.
