Falcons Fly Past Alvernia to Close Conference Play

GRANTHAM, Pa. – On Sunday afternoon, the Messiah University baseball team cruised to a sweep over the Golden Wolves of Alvernia University.
In game one, the Falcons opened the scoring with four runs in the bottom of the first to take a an early-four-run lead. The Falcons continued to add to their lead in the bottom of the second with two runs to take a 6-0 lead. The Falcons added another run in the bottom of the sixth to take a 7-0 lead headed into the final inning. Roman Mastramico finished off the game with a clean inning and the Falcons pitching staff cruised with Christian Foltz throwing four scoreless innings and Collin Schrim adding two scoreless innings to give the Falcons the 7-0 win. Isaiah Parido led the Falcons with three hits and three runs scored. Matt Luchovick totaled two hits and two RBIs. Drew Hurst tallied a hit and two RBIs. Nick Moyer added a hit and an RBI.
In game two, the Falcons opened the game with a run in the first and second inning to take a 2-0 lead. The Falcons then broke the game open with four runs in the bottom of the third and the fifth to take a 10-0 lead. The Falcons poured on 10 runs in the bottom of the sixth to earn the 20-0 win. Landon Mark led the Falcons with three hits and six RBIs. Carter Reid totaled three hits and a run scored. Isaiah Parido added two hits and two RBIs. Jason Long earned the win with five scoreless innings with five strikeouts.

Game One: Messiah 7, Alvernia 0
After scoreless top of the first, the Falcons offense looked to get on the board in the bottom of the first. Isaiah Parido led off the inning with a walk and then stole second. After Cristian Reyna reached on catcher's interference, Drew Hurst reached on a Golden Wolves error to load the bases with no outs. Carter Reid then hit a sacrifice fly to center to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead. Nick Moyer then added to the Falcons lead with an RBI single. Matt Luchovick then hit a two-RBI single down the left-field line to give the Falcons a 4-0 lead through the first.
 
After another scoreless inning on the mound from Christian Foltz, the Falcons looked to add to their lead in the bottom of the second. Brody Travagline and Isaiah Parido led off the inning with back-to-back singles to put runners on first and third with no outs. After Parido stole second, Cristian Reyna walked to load the bases. Drew Hurst then walked to bring in a Falcons run to push the Messiah lead to 5-0. Carter Reid then grounded into a double play, but the Falcons added another run to take a 6-0 lead through two innings of play.
 
Pitching then took over with Foltz throwing two more scoreless innings, and a pair of scoreless innings from Collin Schrim to keep the score at 6-0 heading into the bottom of the sixth.
 
The Falcons looked for another insurance run in the bottom of the sixth. After an Isaiah Parido double, Drew Hurst hit an RBI single to give the Falcons a 7-0 lead headed into the final inning.
 
Roman Mastramico then pitched a clean seventh inning to give the Falcons the 7-0 win.

Isaiah Parido led the Falcons with three hits and three runs scored. Matt Luchovick totaled two hits and two RBIs. Drew Hurst tallied a hit and two RBIs. Nick Moyer added a hit and an RBI. Christian Foltz earned the win, pitching four scoreless innings, allowing only one hit with four strikeouts. Collin Schrim pitched two scoreless innings out of the pen. Roman Mastramico also pitched a scoreless frame out of the bullpen for the Falcons.
 
Game Two:
The Falcons looked to get an early lead again in game two. Isaiah Parido led off the game with a double to right center. After a lineout, Drew Hurst grounded out to second, advancing Parido to third. Landon Mark then hit an RBI single to left to give the Falcons a 1-0 through the first.
 
The Falcons looked to extend their lead in the bottom of the second. After a pop out, Brayden Kratz hit a triple to right center. After a David Martinez walk, Isaiah Parido hit a sacrifice fly to center field to give the Falcons a 2-0 lead through two innings of play.
 
After another scoreless inning from Jason Long, the Falcons looked to extend their lead in the bottom of the third. After a leadoff walk from Drew Hurst, Landon Mark hit a two-run home run to push the Falcons lead to 4-0. Carter Reid then singled and Nick Moyer reached on a walk to put runners on first and second with no outs. After a pair of outs, Reid scored on a wild pitch to extend the Falcons lead to 5-0. David Martinez then hit an RBI single through the left side to extend the Falcons lead to six headed into the fourth.
 
After a scoreless fourth and top of the fifth from Jason Long, the Falcons looked to add to their lead in the bottom of the fifth. After a fly out, David Martinez singled to right. Isaiah Parido doubled and then Cristian Reyna walked to load the bases. Drew Hurst then hit a two-RBI single to take an 8-0 lead. Landon Mark then hit a sacrifice fly to center to push the Falcons lead to nine. Carter Reid then singled and Drew Hurst scored on an error to give the Falcons a 10-0 lead.  
 
The Falcons looked to add to their lead in the bottom of the sixth. Isaiah Parido started the scoring reaching on an error to score Connor Voelksen. One batter later, Micah Smith hit a two-RBI single to push the Falcons lead to 13. After a Hudson rue hit by pitch, Landon Mark hit a two-RBI single to take a 15-0 lead. Brayden Burkholder then hit an RBI single to increase the Falcons lead to 16. Luke Ott brought home a run on an Alvernia error and then Kyler Parks was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to give the Falcons an 18-0 lead. Mason Cruz brought home a run with a hit by pitch and then Micah Smith drove in the Falcons final run on a fielder's choice to give the Falcons a 20-0 lead headed into the final frame.
 
Trey Harper threw a scoreless seventh to give the Falcons the 20-0 win.
