Parido Breaks Home Run Record, Falcons Fly Past Royals

GRANTHAM, Pa. – On Wednesday afternoon, the Messiah University baseball team defeated the Royals of Eastern Mennonite University, 15-6. The Falcons opened the first with a run to take an early lead. The Falcons added four more in the second and a run in the third to take a 6-0 lead through three innings. The Royals scored a run in the fourth to cut the Falcons lead to 6-1. The Royals scored three in the sixth and two in the seventh, but the Falcons matched each of the Royals innings to take a 11-6 lead headed into the eighth. The Falcons added four runs in the bottom of the eighth to earn the 15-6 win. Isaiah Parido led the Falcons with four hits, including two home runs, and five RBIs. With his second home run of the day, Parido now holds the most career home runs in program history with 33. David Martinez tallied two hits and two RBIs. Carter Reid reached base four times with two hits.  

Up next, the Falcons host the Lions of Albright College on Friday, April 10 at 3:30 p.m.

Messiah 15, Eastern Mennonite 6
After a scoreless inning from Kolten Martin on the mound, the Falcons looked to take the lead in the bottom half. Isaiah Parido led off the game with a no-doubt solo home run to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead.
 
The Falcons looked to continue their strong start in the bottom of the second. After Carter Reid led off the inning with a single to right, Matt Luchovick and David Martinez reached on hit by pitches to load the bases with no outs. After a flyout, Kyler Parks brought in a run with a fielder's choice to second. Isaiah Parido then hit a two-RBI triple to left field to give the Falcons a four-run lead. Parido then scored on a wild pitch to push the Falcons lead to 5-0 through two innings of play.
 
The Falcons looked to keep the bats going in the bottom of third. With one out, Nick Moyer and Carter Reid walked to put runners on first and second with one out. After a strikeout, David Martinez hit an RBI single to right to push the Falcons lead to 6-0.
 
The Royals cut the Falcons lead to five with a run in the top of the fourth off a Falcons' error.
 
After a scoreless fifth, the Royals scored three runs in the top of the sixth to cut the Falcons' lead to two.
 
The Falcons looked to answer the three-run inning from the Royals in the bottom of the sixth. With one out David Martinez reached first on a hit by pitch. After a pop out, Martinez stole second and then Kyler Parks walked. Isaiah Parido then hit an RBI single, and the left fielder made a fielding error that allowed Parks to come around and score to give the Falcons an 8-4 lead. Cristian Reyna then hit an RBI single to left to give the Falcons a 9-4 lead through six innings.
 
The Royals offense continued the momentum at the plate with two runs in the top of the seventh to cut the Falcons lead to 9-6.
 
The Falcons looked to answer the Royals runs again in the bottom of the seventh. The Falcons scored two runs off of two Royals' errors with Matt Luchovick and David Martinez scoring to push the Falcons lead to 11-6 headed into the eighth.
 
The Falcons looked to add more insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth. Isaiah Parido led off the inning with a solo home run to right center. With the home run, Parido broke the career home runs record with his 33rd career home run. The Falcons added three more runs on the inning on an RBI single from Nick Moyer, a sacrifice fly from David Martinez, and Micah Smith scoring on a wild pitch to give the Falcons the 15-6 lead.
 
Collin Schrim threw a scoreless ninth to give the Falcons the 15-6 win.

Isaiah Parido led the Falcons with four hits, including two home runs, and five RBIs. With his second home run of the day, Parido now holds the most career home runs in program history with 33. David Martinez tallied two hits and two RBIs. Carter Reid reached base four times with two hits.  Nick Moyer, Kyler Parks, and Cristian Reyna each tallied a hit and RBI. Kolten Martin earned the start with four innings pitched, allowing one unearned run with two strikeouts. Julian Butler and Collin Schrim each pitched a scoreless inning out of the pen.
