Falcons Offense Comes Alive in Game Two of DH Split Against Salisbury

GRANTHAM, Pa. – The Messiah Softball team was back in action this afternoon for a doubleheader against the Salisbury University Sea Gulls. The teams split the doubleheader, with Salisbury winning game one in five innings, 13-3, using back-to-back four run innings to pull away. Rebekah Wiley had two hits and two RBIs. Josi Tolentino added a solo homerun, while Lucy Murphy had two hits. In game two, the Falcons offense got rolling, scoring four runs in the fourth inning to pull away and get the win. Rebekah Wiley had three hits and two RBIs. Fallon Feaser added one hit and one RBI.
 
Up next, the Falcons are back in action tomorrow afternoon at Dickinson College for a doubleheader starting at 2:00 p.m.
 
 
Game One: Messiah – 3, Salisbury – 13 (5 inn.)
The Sea Gulls took an early lead, scoring three runs on four hits in the top of the first. In the bottom of the first, Ava Fair reached first on an error with one out. Fallon Feaser singled down the line to give Messiah two runners on. After the Falcons second out, Rebekah Wiley stepped into the batter's box and scorched a 2-RBI double to the wall in center field to make it 3-2.
 
After a scoreless inning for Fallon Feaser in the circle, Josi Tolentino led off the bottom of the second with a game-tying solo home run. Brielle Rosario added a single in the inning, but the Falcons failed to take the lead.
 
Salisbury retook the lead, scoring four runs on four hits in the top of the third, before adding four more runs on five hits to take an 11-3 lead. Lucy Murphy singled to lead off the fourth for the Falcons, but the team failed to get any sustained offense.
 
Salisbury added two more runs in the top of the fifth. In the bottom of the fifth, Ava Fair walked, and Rebekah Wiley and Lucy Murphy both added singles to load the bases, but the Falcons once again failed to score, falling in five innings.

Rebekah Wiley had two hits and two RBIs. Josi Tolentino added a solo homerun, while Lucy Murphy had two hits. Brielle Rosario and Fallon Feaser each added hits for the Falcons.
 
 
Game Two: Messiah – 10, Salisbury – 6
Salisbury's offense started game two how they ended game one, scoring two runs on one hit. In the bottom half, Ava Fair reached base on a fielder's choice, quickly stealing second. Fallon Feaser doubled to left field to score Fair, and then Allie Book singled to score Feaser. After, Book moved over to third, Lucy Murphy reached first on an error that scored Book to give Messiah a 3-2 lead.
 
After a scoreless second inning for both teams, Salisbury scored two runs on one hit in the third to retake the lead. In the bottom half of the inning, Rebekah Wiley singled, but Messiah failed to score.
 
Salisbury tacked on another run in the fourth to make it 5-3. In the bottom of the fourth, Ashley Bryant reached on an error and Kelli Durbin walked. Brielle Rosario then singled to third base to load the bases. Asia Harding came in to pinch hit and drew a walk to score a run and keep the bases loaded. Ava Fair came in to pinch run for Harding, which was followed by a wild pitch to advance all three runners, scoring Kelli Durbin to tie the game, 5-5. After two straight outs for the Falcons, Rebekah Wiley singled through the left side to score two, giving the Falcons the lead, 7-5.
 
After a scoreless fifth inning in the circle for Kelli Durbin, Durbin drew a one-out walk in the bottom half of the inning. Mia Libby came in to pinch run and stole second. Brielle Rosario and Ava Fair drew two straight walks to load the bases. Fallon Feaser then reached base on an error that scored Libby to make it 8-5.
 
After another scoreless inning for the Sea Gulls, Rebekah Wiley led off the bottom of the sixth with a double down the left field line. Lucy Murphy dropped a sacrifice bunt to advance Wiley, and Josi Tolentino sent a double over the second baseman's head into the right center gap to score Wiley. Ashley Bryant then singled, and while advancing to second, Tolentino scored to make it 10-5.
 
The Sea Gulls got one run in the top of the seventh, but the Falcons held on to win 10-6.
