No. 16 Falcons Roll Past Lions

GRANTHAM, Pa. – The No. 16 Messiah Women's Lacrosse team earned a 19-1 win over Albright College on Wednesday night at Witmer Family Lacrosse Stadium. The Falcons took a 10-0 lead in the first quarter before adding five in the second to hold a 15-0 lead at halftime. They added a pair in the third and fourth quarter to earn the 19-1 win. Hayley Lettinga led the Falcons with six goals and two assists. Grace Pettitt added three goals and four assists. Dani Sauder tallied five assists and added a goal. Nine total Falcons tallied goals in the win. Grace Hejeebu and Maddie Brooks each tallied a pair of saves in goal for the Falcons.

The Falcons return to action on Saturday, April 11 at 12:00 p.m. when they travel to Reading, Pa. to take on Alvernia University.

First Quarter
The Falcons opened the first quarter with offensive dominance, scoring four goals just over three minutes into play. Hayley Lettinga netted a free position attempt at 13:54 before Grace Pettitt found Annalise Keitel at 13:19. Lettinga added her second goal at 12:38 with Lettinga finding Hannah Gawne at 11:49 to give Messiah a 4-0 lead. After Kendall Bayley missed a shot just wide, Keitel had a shot saved by the Albright goalie. Keitel recovered the ground ball and Hayley Lettinga found the back of the goal to give Messiah a 5-0 lead, forcing Albright to take a timeout. Out of the break, the Falcons extended their lead to 7-0 with unassisted goals from Lettinga and Grace Pettitt with 7:00 to play in the first. Abby Welchans and Kayla Arnold had shots saved before a free position shot from Hannah Gawne was saved by the Lions' goalie. A shot from the Lions hit off the post to keep the Falcons up 8-0. Grace Pettit added a goal and then found Annalise Keitel to give the Falcons a 10-0 lead that they would carry into the second quarter.

Second Quarter
Grace Pettitt found Kendall Bayley just under a minute into play for the Falcons 11th goal of the game. Hayley Lettinga then found Pettitt to extend the lead to 12-0. At 9:09, Annalise Keitel tallied an unassisted goal. Two minutes later, Dani Sauder connected with Lettinga for a man-up goal and the 14-0 Messiah lead. After Addyson Wagman earned the draw control, Sauder connected with Bayley for a 15-0 lead with 5:33 remaining in the second. Grace Hejeebu tallied a pair of saves to maintain the 15-0 lead into halftime.

Third Quarter
Hannah Gawne had a pair of shots on goal saved in the opening two minutes of the second half. After two minutes of back-and-forth play, Dani Sauder tallied an unassisted goal for the Falcons. The Lions missed a pair of shots wide and fired a shot off the post before Sierra Simmons had a shot saved by the Albright goalie. Annalise Keitel had a shot on goal saved by the Lions goalie before Sauder found Abby Welchans for a goal to give the Falcons a 17-0 lead. Alison Henchen had a shot on goal saved as the Falcons took the 17-0 lead into the final quarter.

Fourth Quarter
The Lions earned an early free position attempt to open the fourth quarter and were able to tally their first goal of the game at 14:33. Hannah Gawne had a shot saved before firing a shot just wide. The Falcons recovered the ball and Dani Sauder found Rachel Marshall to bring the score to 18-1. Albright fired a shot on goal that Maddie Brooks was able to cleanly save. With 5:24 to play, Sauder found Kayla Arnold to extend the Falcons' lead to 19-1. Arnold then had a shot saved with 2:29 to play. Albright fired a shot off the post before recovering the ground ball for a second chance shot. Maddie Brooks was able to make the save in goal. Alison Henchen missed a shot just high as the clock rounded down to solidfy the 19-1 win.

Hayley Lettinga led the Falcons with six goals and two assists. Grace Pettitt added three goals and four assists. Dani Sauder tallied five assists and added a goal. Nine total Falcons tallied goals in the win. Grace Hejeebu and Maddie Brooks each tallied a pair of saves in goal for the Falcons.
