Falcons Fall in Pitcher’s Duel at No. 10 Baldwin Wallace in Super Regionals Game One

BEREA, Ohio – On Friday afternoon, the Messiah University baseball team dropped game one of the Super Regionals to the tenth-ranked Yellow Jackets of Baldwin Wallace, 4-0. The Yellow Jackets got on the board first with three runs in the bottom of the first. Christian Foltz settled into the game, throwing five scoreless innings to keep the score at 3-0 through six innings. The Yellow Jackets added a run in the eighth, but the Falcons could not get on the board, and the Yellow Jackets earned the 4-0 win to take a 1-0 series lead. Drew Hurst led the Falcons, reaching base twice on a hit and a hit by pitch. Landon Mark, Nick Moyer, and Isaiah Parido each tallied a hit. Christian Foltz pitched six innings, allowing three runs, on seven hits and eight strikeouts.
 
Up next, the Falcons take on No. 10 Baldwin Wallace in game two of the Super Regionals at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 22. Game three (if necessary) is currently schedule for 45 minutes after game two, but with inclement weather in the radar, it may be moved to Sunday.

The Falcons looked to get on the board first in the top of the first. After a ground out, Drew Hurst and Landon Mark hit back-to-back singles to give the Falcons runners on first and second with one out. The Yellow Jackets got out of the inning with a pop out and a strikeout to keep the game scoreless headed into the bottom of the first.
 
The Yellow Jackets scored three runs in the bottom of the first on a three-run home run to give Baldwin Wallace an early 3-0 lead.
 
After a scoreless second, the Falcons looked to score in the top of the third. Isaiah Parido singled but was caught stealing during the next batter. Drew Hurst reached on a hit by pitch, but the Yellow Jackets got out of the inning with a line out to keep their 3-0 lead.  
 
The Yellow Jackets looked to extend their lead into the bottom of the third. After a walk and a double, Baldwin Wallace had runners on second and third with one out, but Christian Foltz got a strikeout and a pop out to keep the score at 3-0 through three innings of play.
 
After a scoreless fourth and top half of the fifth, the Yellow Jackets looked to add to their lead in the bottom of the fifth. After a walk and a single, the Yellow Jackets looked to be threating to add insurance runs. On a safety squeeze play, Christian Foltz made a barehanded throw to home and got the runner out, keeping Baldwin Wallace from adding to their lead headed into the sixth.
 
After a scoreless sixth, the Falcons looked to get the offense going in the top of the seventh. With one out, Nick Moyer singled, but the Falcons could not put together a rally and the score remained 3-0 headed to the bottom of the seventh.
 
The Yellow Jackets added to their lead with an RBI double in the bottom of the eighth to take a 4-0 lead.
 
The Falcons did not add another base runner in the final inning and the Yellow Jackets earned the 4-0 win.

Drew Hurst led the Falcons, reaching base twice on a hit and a hit by pitch. Landon Mark, Nick Moyer, and Isaiah Parido each tallied a hit. Christian Foltz pitched six innings, allowing three runs, on seven hits and eight strikeouts. After allowing three runs in the first, Foltz settled into the game allowing no runs with seven strikeouts in his next five innings. Owen Thornton pitched two innings out of the pen, allowing one unearned run with one strikeout. The Falcons were shutout for the first time since April 13, 2024, which was a 7-0 loss to York.
