DALLAS, Pa. – On Saturday evening, the ninth-ranked Messiah University women's soccer team used a second-half goal from
Alayna Williams to defeat the Cougars of Misericordia University, 1-0. Both teams totaled one shot on goal in the first half, but each shot was saved to keep the game scoreless at the break. The Falcons broke the tie in the 55th minute on a goal from
Alayna Williams by
Lauren Kenny.
Ellie Ockrin made a save in the last couple minutes to earn the 1-0 win.
Up next, the Falcons host the seventh-ranked Profs of Rowan University on Wednesday, Sept. 23 at 5:00 p.m.
First Half
After some back-and-forth play, the Falcons looked to break the scoreless tie in the 30th minute.
Lexi Sarago sent a shot on goal, but the shot was saved by the Cougars goalkeeper to keep the game tied. In the final 20 seconds, the Cougars sent a shot on goal, but
Ellie Ockrin made the save to keep the game scoreless at the half.
Second Half
The Falcons looked to break scoreless tie in the 55th minute. After some quick passes between
Addi Martin and
Mia Libby, Libby sent a ball towards the right corner to
Lauren Kenny. Kenny dribbled into the box and sent a cross and the ball bounced off
Alayna Williams' chest and into the bottom-left corner to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead. The Falcons continued to pressure the Cougars defense with a shot on goal from
Nikki Davis, but the Cougars' goalkeeper made the save to hold the score at 1-0 in the 62nd minute. The Cougars got one final chance to tie the game in the 88th minute, but
Ellie Ockrin made the save to give the Falcons the 1-0 win.

Alayna Williams scored the lone goal for the Falcons.
Lauren Kenny tallied an assist. The Falcons totaled 16 shots with three shots on goal. The Cougars tallied seven shots with two shots on goal. Messiah totaled six corners to Misericordia's one.
