Aubrey Clark to put the Falcons on the board. Franklin and Marshall tallied a late goal in the fourth to secure a 3-1 win over the Falcons. The Diplomats outshot the Falcons 14-9 while tallying 10 corners to the Falcons' eight.
Joy Lippert made eight saves in goal for the Falcons.
The Falcons continue action on the road on Saturday, Sept. 12, when they travel to No. 3 Salisbury for a 6:00 p.m. game.
First Quarter
The Falcons earned a first minute penalty corner and
Aubrey Clark fired a shot on goal, forcing a save from the Franklin and Marshall goalie. The Falcons had a second corner that resulted in a shot from
Ellie Lefever being blocked. The Diplomats fired their first shot on goal around the 6:00 mark, but
Joy Lippert made the save in goal for Messiah. Midway through the first quarter, Franklin and Marshall was awarded a penalty stroke, but Lippert stepped up and made the save to keep the score notched 0-0.
Addie Weiler fired a shot on goal that was saved before the rebound shot from
Aubrey Clark missed just wide. In the final minute, the Diplomats earned their first penalty corner of the game and were able to convert the opportunity for a goal to take a 1-0 lead.
Second Quarter
Franklin and Marshall had three straight penalty corners to open the second quarter, resulting in a shot on frame that was saved by
Joy Lippert and a shot that missed wide. The Falcons then had the next scoring opportunity with three corners of their own that resulted in a pair of blocked shots from
Lindsey Campione. In the 23rd minute, the Diplomats had a string of three penalty corners, but the Falcons defense blocked the lone shot that was fired.
Joy Lippert made a pair of saves in goal for Messiah to keep the deficit at 1-0 heading into halftime.
Third Quarter
The Diplomats continued their pressure out of the break, earning a first minute penalty corner. The first shot fired on goal was saved by
Joy Lippert, but a Diplomat was able to recover the ball and slot the second chance shot past Lippert to extend the lead to 2-0. A shot fired three minutes later was saved by Lippert before momentum shifted in the Falcons' favor. A penalty corner for Messiah in the 36th minute resulted in
Chelsea Carlisle connecting with
Aubrey Clark to put the Falcons on the board. The Falcons had an opportunity to score the equalizer in the next minute, but a shot from
Kenzie Feeney was blocked by a Franklin and Marshall defender.
Fourth Quarter
Aubrey Clark fired the lone shot for the Falcons in the fourth quarter but missed wide. The Diplomats looked to use a penalty corner to add to their total, but
Joy Lippert made the save in goal. A second penalty corner resulted in the second penalty stroke of the night for Franklin and Marshall, and a successful conversion extended their lead to 3-0 with just over three minutes to play. Neither team registered a shot as time expired.
