Hoy Scores His 1,000th but Falcons Fall to Warriors

Grantham, PA - The Messiah Falcons fell to the Lycoming Warriors Wednesday night in Brubaker auditorium 66-64. Zac Hoy led all scorers with 18 points, including his 1,000th career point that came on a three-pointer midway through the second-half.
The Falcons fell into a hole early, thanks to a quick 8-2 Lycoming run in the first three minutes. The Falcons would counter with a 7-0 run of their own, highlighted by a Luke Cable three to give the Falcons a one-point lead.

The Warriors and Falcons would trade baskets until the 10:30 mark, when the Warriors used a 13-6 run to pull ahead by seven. The Falcons would come roaring back with a Cable three and two layups from David Frenandez-Bravo in a 8-2 run to pull within one.

By the end of the half, both teams had weathered runs and momentum swings from one another and saw the score tied at 34-34.

Much like the fist-half, the Warriors got off to a quick start in the second-half, using a 12-2 run to open a 10-point lead. A Lycoming dunk in transition with 12:13 remaining gave them their largest lead of the night at 57-44.

With the Falcons trailing by 13 and with 10:40 remaining in the game, Zac Hoy began a 17-3 Falcons' run by burying a deep three from the top of the key.

With the three, Hoy became the 24th Falcon to score 1,000 points in their career, joining teammate David Fernandez-Bravo (1,322 points) in the exclusive club. A three-year starter for the Falcons, Hoy has played 94 games for Messiah (63 starts), averaging 10.7 points per contest. He has also collected 314 assists, 240 rebounds, and 125 steals in his career. Hoy would collect 18 points in the game and now sits in 22nd place on the all-time scoring list for the Falcons with 1,006 career points.

During the 17-3 run the Falcons buckled down on the defensive end. The Warriors were held without a field goal for 12 straight possessions during an 8:02 span. Highlighting the run on the offensive end were Geoff Boyle (six points) and Hoy (five points).

A Lycoming three ended the Falcons' run with 4:11 remaining in the game to give the Warriors a two-point advantage. On the ensuing Falcons' possession, Hoy would counter with a three of his own to put the Falcons back up by one.

With 2:45 left in the game, Malcom Covington made a lay-up and completed a three-point play to put the Warriors back up by two. Across the final minutes both teams had opportunities to score, none better then Jimmy Brackett's layup attempt that would have tied the game, but just rolled off the rim, denying the Falcons with 46 seconds remaining.

After a pair of missed free throws for Lycoming, the Falcons had a chance to win the game, but a last second three fell short and the Falcons fell to the Warriors 66-64.

Neither team scored across the final 2:45, going a combined 0-6 from the field and 0-2 from the free throw line.

As mentioned Hoy led all scorers with 18 points, while Geoff Boyle (12), David Fernandez-Bravo (12), Luke Cable (10) joined him in double-digits for the Falcons.

With the loss the Falcons fall to 3-7 in the conference and 10-8 overall. They next take the court on Saturday when the Widener Pride travel to Grantham. Game time is slated for 5:00 p.m.
