Falcons Erase 20-Point Deficit, Steal OT Win

Owings Mills, MD - The Falcons pulled off a dramatic come-from-behind victory at Stevenson on Wednesday night as they erased a 20-point second-half deficit to force overtime before claiming a 75-74 victory – their first conference win of the season.

With 15:30 left in the second-half, Stevenson's Erik Fisher made a layup to put the Mustangs up 48-28 over the Falcons, their largest lead of the night. Trailing by 20, David Fernandez-Bravo made a layup on the next Falcons' possession that began a 35-15 run that tied the game at the end of regulation and forced overtime.

The comeback was capped off as time expired by Aaron DeVan's three from the corner, right in front of the Falcons' bench. With 2.8 seconds left in regulation, DeVan inbounded the ball to Fernandez-Bravo who handed it right back to DeVan, who hoisted an off-balance shot. The shot found the bottom of the net and forced overtime. DeVan was 1-7 from downtown before the buzzer-beater, but he came up big when the Falcons needed a bucket.

In the overtime period, the Mustangs and Falcons traded blows with both teams looking for the knockout punch. The Falcons lead by as many as four half way through the overtime, but the lead was short-lived, as the Mustangs tied the game up less than a minute later. With the scored tied at 74-74, the Falcons had the ball looking for a victory. As Zac Hoy drove to the bucket with under 10 seconds left the Mustangs were called for a foul and sent Hoy to the line. Hoy missed his first, but made his second giving the Falcons a one-point advantage.

The Mustangs had a quality look with two seconds left, but Christian Robert's layup rolled off the rim and the Falcons held on for the one-point, overtime victory.

As mentioned the Falcons erased a 20-point second-half deficient, easily their largest comeback of the season. Scoring from Zac Hoy, Jimmy Brackett, and Aaron DeVan highlighted the 35-15. Hoy, who had been held scoreless before he completed an old-fashion three-point play with 6:50 left in regulation, scored 10 points during the big run. While Brackett – the Falcons' leading scorer on the night – collected nine of his 22 points during the final 15 minutes of regulation. DeVan scored all eight of his points, including the game-tying three in the comeback.

As mentioned Brackett led the Falcons in scoring for the first time in his career, going for a career-high 22 points on 7-9 shooting from the field. He also collected five rebounds and was a perfect 7-7 from the free throw line. David Fernandez-Bravo also had a very solid night scoring 14 points on a 6-10 effort from the field while collecting seven rebounds and eight assists.

With the win the Falcons pick-up their first conference win of the year as they advance to 8-5 overall and 1-4 in the Commonwealth Conference. The Falcons will next take the floor on Saturday afternoon, when they travel to Albright College to take on the Lions. Game time is slated for 2:00 p.m.
