GRANTHAM, Pa. – The Messiah College women's tennis team hosted Stevenson University on Wednesday afternoon. The Falcons defeated the Mustangs 7-2 and moved to 3-0 in the MAC Commonwealth.
In doubles play, the Falcons went 2-1 over the Mustangs. No. 3 doubles
Emily Wichert and
Gabby Brooks secured Messiah's first win of the day by defeating their opponents 8-5.
Carly Dove and
Amanda Adams (no. 2 doubles) were also victorious and won their match 8-6. No. 1 doubles
Kelly Hopkins and
Kaitlyn Russell battled hard, but drop their match 8-6 to the Mustangs.
Messiah dominated in singles action and went 5-1.
Emily Wichert (no. 5 singles) swept her opponent 6-0, 6-0, while
Amanda Adams (no. 4) also picked up a solid win (6-1, 6-0). No. 3 singles
Carly Dove secured a victory and only gave up four sets (6-2, 6-2).
Kaitlyn Russell (no. 2) and
Sarah Summerson (no. 6) were the final two wins for Messiah and they both defeated their opponents 6-3 in the first set and 7-5 in the second.
Kelly Hopkins fought hard in the no. 1 singles position but lost a close match to Stevenson's top player, 6-7 (1-7), 7-6 (7-0), 10-8.
The Falcons will travel to Albright on Saturday, Apr. 14 for another conference match. The match is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
