GLENSIDE, Pa. - The Messiah College women's tennis team defeated Arcadia University 8-1 on Saturday afternoon. The Falcons picked up their seventh-straight win and moved to 6-0 in the MAC Commonwealth.
The Falcons won all three doubles matches, but it wasn't easy. No. 1 doubles,
Kelly Hopkins and
Kaitlyn Russell fought and pulled out a 9-8 (7-3) win over their opponents.
Carly Dove and
Emily Wichert (no. 2) also had to fight for every point and they secured a 9-7 victory.
Sarah Summerson and
Gracie Estrella finished things off for the Falcons in doubles play with an 8-6 win in the no. 3 position.
Kaitlyn Russell (no. 2) and
Emily Wichert (no. 4) got things started for Messiah in singles action and defeated their opponents 6-2, 7-5.
Sarah Summerson (no.5) had a tough first set but won 7-5, she then turned around and dominated the second set and won 6-2.
Gracie Estrella (no. 6) dropped her first set 4-6, but battled back and won the second set 6-1. Estrella won the deciding set (10-7) to give the Falcons their fourth win in singles play.
Carly Dove (no. 3) wrapped things up for Messiah with a 6-4, 6-7 (7-9), 6-0 win over her opponent.
Kelly Hopkins fell to Arcadia's Amanda Shulski (6-2, 6-0) in the no. 1 singles position.
The Falcons will host Elizabethtown College on Wednesday, Apr. 25 at 3:30 p.m.
