FREDERICK, Md. – Messiah College women's tennis had an outstanding performance on the road against Hood College on Thursday afternoon. The Falcons moved to 1-0 in the MAC Commonwealth after they defeated the Blazers 9-0.
Kelly Hopkins and Kaitlyn Russel (no. 1 doubles) swept their opponents 8-0 in doubles action.
Carly Dove and
Amanda Adams (no. 2) pulled out an 8-6 win over the Blazers in a tough battle.
Emily Wichert and
Sarah Summerson (no. 3) won their match by default.
In singles play,
Kelly Hopkins (no. 1) and
Emily Wichert (no. 5) started things off and defeated their opponents 6-1, 6-1.
Amanda Adams (no. 4) swept her opponent in the first set 6-0 and won the second set 6-3.
Carly Dove (no. 3) was steady and defeated Sophie Smith 6-3, 6-2.
Kaitlyn Russell (no. 2) went to a tiebreaker in the first set and won 7-6 (8-6), dropped her second set 2-6, but responded and defeated her opponent 10-5 in the deciding set.
Sarah Summerson won by default in the no. 6 singles position.
The Falcons will be back on the court Saturday, Apr. 7 when they travel to Lebanon Valley College. Their match against the Dutchmen is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
