ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Messiah College women's tennis team moved to 2-0 in the MAC Commonwealth after they defeated Lebanon Valley College 7-2 on Saturday afternoon.
The Falcons swept the Flying Dutchmen 3-0 in doubles action.
Kelly Hopkins and
Kaitlyn Russell had a dominant performance in the no. 1 doubles position and defeated their opponents 8-1.
Carly Dove and
Emily Wichert (no. 2) and
Sarah Summerson and
Gabby Brooks (no. 3) were also victorious in their matches 8-4 and 8-5, respectively.
In singles play, Messiah won four of the six matches over LVC.
Kelly Hopkins (no. 1 singles) defeated her opponent 6-2, 6-4 and Kaitlyn Russel (no. 2) won 6-3, 6-0.
Carly Dove won a hard-fought battle in the no. 3 position (6-4, 2-6 (10-3)) while
Emily Wichert (no. 4) had no problem defeating her opponent 6-3, 6-0.
Messiah will be back in action when the host Stevenson on Wednesday, Apr. 11 at 3:30 p.m.
