Women's Tennis Drops Saturday Match at Gettysburg

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Messiah women's tennis team dropped a 6-3 decision against the Gettysburg Bullets on Saturday afternoon. Gettysburg claimed all three doubles matches before the Falcons and Bullets split the six singles matches, earing three points apiece.
 
The Bullets jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after doubles play. The Falcons put up their best fight in the No. 1 doubles match with the team of Kaitlyn Russell and Emily Wichert winning five games in an 8-5 loss. The Bullets took No. 2 doubles and No. 3 doubles by scores of 8-0 and 8-3 respectively.
 
In singles play, the Bullets quickly won No. 1 and No. 3 singles by 6-0, 6-0 and 6-1, 6-2 decisions, respectively, to clinch the match with five team points. Messiah would end up claiming three team points thanks to victories from Emily Wichert (No. 2 singles), Amanda Adams (No. 4 singles), and Sarah Summerson (No. 5 singles). Wichert earned a hard-fought 6-3, 7-5 victory, while Adams and Summerson earned more comfortable wins at 6-0, 6-1 and 6-2, 6-2, respectively.
 
The Falcons are back in action two weeks from today when Messiah travels to York College (PA) to square off against the Spartans at 12:00 p.m.
