LANCASTER, Pa. – The Messiah women's track and field team competed at the Blue & White Invitational hosted by Franklin & Marshall on Friday evening. The Falcons had a number of strong performances with
Kara Brown's victory in the 60 Meter Hurdles highlighting the effort for the team. Brown (9.64) edged teammate
Claire Miller (9.70) to claim Messiah's love victory on the evening.
In total, Messiah had 25 top-10 performances with 10 finishes earning top-three honors on the day.
Messiah will be back in action next weekend when they head to Susquehanna University on Saturday.
In the Field
The Falcons earned a number of strong performances in field events on Friday. Led by three top-10 finishers in the Pole Vault, Messiah earned seven top-10 marks in field events. Messiah's strong finishers in the Pole Vault were
Cadee Wood (third, 2.88 meters),
Noelle Crowley (fifth, 2.73 meters), and
Olivia Call (seventh, 2.43 meters).
Olivia Call also earned a seventh-place finish in the High Jump, clearing 1.30 meters.
Natalie Hamlen was right behind Call in the event, finishing in eighth at 1.25 meters.
Emma Graybill took home second place in the Triple Jump with a mark of 9.95 meters and
Leah Ferster finished seventh in the Shot Put with a throw of 9.97 meters.
On the Track
The Falcons had three different events where they earned a trio of top-10 performances. Starting with the 5,000 Meter, the Falcons had
Connor Coggins (third, 19:47.61),
Amber Swaisgood (fourth, 19:49.06), and Kristen Howland (seventh, 20:31.42) all turn in solid finishes.
In the Mile, Messiah had back-to-back finishers in second and third with
Katie Anthony (second, 5:26.28) and
Kate Dickow (third, 5:26.61) finishing within a half second of each other.
Amber Fogelsanger turned in a time of 5:49.87 to take ninth in the event.
In the 800 Meter,
Kathleen Walstrom (fifth, 2:31.06),
Kerrigan Lebo (sixth, 2:31.38), and
Natalie Hamlen (eighth, 2:32.88) all finished within two seconds of each other to earn top-10 finishes.
As mentioned, Messiah's best event of the day may have been the 60 Meter Hurdles where
Kara Brown and
Claire Miller went one-two in the event. Brown edged Miller with a time of 9.64 against Miller's 9.70.
In the 60 Meter,
Halle Jennett (8.28) took fifth and
Arwyn Gruenwald (8.40) finished eighth. Jennett also earned a third-place finish in the 200 Meter with a time of 26.92.
Emma Graybill took second in the 400 Meter in a time of 1:02.26 while
Clara Benner also finished in the top-10 with a time of 1:05.89.
Alie Schutte was the lone Falcons to take a top-10 place in the 3,000 Meter, earning third with a time of 11:18.86.
Messiah's relay team of
Kerrigan Lebo,
Laura Kruth, Isabela Rodriguez, and Julia Rickard finished the 4x400 Meter Realy in fourth with a time of 4:26.05
