SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Messiah University Women's Track and Field team was in action on Friday, April 25, and Saturday, April 26 at the Paul Kaiser Classic hosted by Shippensburg University. In addition to the Falcon performances at Paul Kaiser, a 4x400 Meter Relay team and
Samantha Mynio competed at the Penn Relays on Friday night.
Messiah will return to action for the Middle Atlantic Conference Championships that will be held from Thursday, May 1 through Saturday, May 3 at York College.
Penn Relays
The 4x400 Meter Relay team of
Elana Pineda,
Madison Kimmel,
Meagan Kime, and
Clara Benner combined for a time of 4:15.10 to take fifth in the College Women's 4x400 Meter Relay Centennial/MAC heat.
Samantha Mynio competed in the U20 Women's 5K Racewalk and took first-place with a time of 26:12.57.
On The Track
The Falcons had a number of highlights on the track worth noting at Shippensburg. In the 110 Meter Hurdles,
Kara Brown was the lone Division III qualifier and finished sixth overall with a time of 15.39 in the finals.
Halle Jennett crossed the line in a time of 58.53 in the 400 Meter Dash, the top Division III competitor and fourth overall. In the 800 Meter Run,
Kerrigan Lebo finished ninth with a time of 2:24.35 but was the third Division III competitor to cross the line. The final top finish came in the 5000 Meter Run, where
Delaney Turk finished in a time of 19:26.74, earning 15th but crossing as the second Division II competitor.
Arwyn Gruenwald was the lone Falcon in the 100 Meter Dash, crossing the line in a time of 13.08. The trio of
Clara Benner (28.31),
Kara Brown (28.45), and
Emma Graybill (29.59) competed in the 200 Meter Dash.
As mentioned,
Kerrigan Lebo crossed the line of the 800 Meter Run in a time of 2:24.35. Joining Lebo in the 800 was a flock of other Falcons.
Madison Kimmel and
Meagan Kime were the next Falcons across the line in times of 2:26.51 and 2:27.99 respectively.
Juliette Safer (2:32.32),
Alyssa Nori (2:33.42), and Helen Blakeslee (2:36.94) were the next trio of Falcons to cross the line. Rounding out the Messiah efforts were Katei Gardner and
Abigail Smith who ran respective times of 2:41.98 and 3:00.25.
The next mass contingent of Falcon runners came in the 1500 Meter Run. The group was led by
Teddi Powell who crossed the line in a time of 4:57.60. The next Falcons to cross were
Linnea Haney (5:34.85),
Kelsey Hoffman (5:46.64), and
Elizabeth Anthony (5:50.12). The remaining Falcon competitors were
Lexi Lapp (5:51.82),
Julia Steel (5:53.63),
Allison Keller (6:01.96), and
Julia Rickard (7:18.24).
In the 5000 Meter Run,
Delaney Turk led the Falcons with her 19:26.74 finish. The next Falcons across the line was
Grace Bath in a time of 21:39.22.
Abi Ferry (23:09.35) and
Lia Widenhofer (26:39.48) rounded out the Falcon efforts.
In the Falcons' first relay of the day, the team of
Kara Brown,
Emma Graybill,
Clara Benner, and
Olivia Call combined for a time of 53.62 in the 4x100 Meter Dash Relay. In the 4x400 Meter Dash, Messiah clocked a time of 4:40.83 behind the efforts of Helen Blakeslee,
Katie Gardner, Isa Rodriguez, and
Juliette Safer.
In The Field
Highlights in the field came in the Shot Put and the Discus. In the Shot Put,
Leah Ferster registered a mark of 10.88 meters, finishing 19th overall and fourth among Division III competitors.
Ella Axtell finished with a distance of 10.56 meters, 21st overall and fifth among Division III. In the Discus, a mark of 31.83 meters placed
Jaclyn Steenstra in 17th overall, with a fourth place finish among Division III competitors.
Also competing in the Shot Put was
Leah Ritzman with a mark of 10.13 meters. Ritzman also joined Steenstra in the Discus and registered a mark of 30.20 meters while
Carolina Hatch threw 25.43 meters.
Leah Ferster and
Jaclyn Steenstra returned to the field for the Hammer Throw. Steenstra finished with a mark of 38.14 meters, just one hundredth ahead of Ferster who finished with a mark of 38.13 meters.
Sidney Avers reached a distance of 28.53 meters.
In the Javelin Throw,
Ayva Sechman threw a mark of 22.76 meters.
Sarah Cramer was the lone Falcon in the horizontal jumps, registering a mark of 4.02 meters in the Long Jump and 9.49 meters in the Triple Jump.
In the High Jump,
Kara Brown cleared a height of 1.45 meters while
Hannah Witter cleared a height of 3.30 meters in the Pole Vault.
