GETTYSBURG, Pa. - The Messiah Track and Field team claimed the victory at the abbreviated Mason Dixon Invitational Saturday, April 22nd. 11 of 19 scheduled events were contested before a lightning delay began and eventually ended the day's competition. With the 11 scored events, Messiah earned 94 points to edge out Marymount who ended in second with 60 points.

A handful of Falcons will travel to Philadelphia on Thursday, April 27th, and Friday, April 28th for the Penn Relays. Messiah will travel as a team to Shippensburg on Saturday, April 29th for the Paul Kaiser Invitational.
On The Track
Highlighting the efforts on the track was a victory in the 4x100 Meter Relay. The team of
Arwyn Gruenwald,
Emma Graybill,
Halle Jennett, and
Elena Vargas combined for a time of 49.95 to earn the victory, running the ninth fastest time in Messiah history.
Messiah claimed two of the top three spots with Jennett and Gruenwald earning second and third respectively. Jennett crossed the line in 13.00 while Gruenwald was close behind, crossing in 13.36.
There was a similar scene in the 400 Meter Dash, when
Emma Graybill (1:01.08) and
Kerrigan Lebo (1:01.74) claimed second and third respectively. Joining them in the top ten were
Cassidy Chandler (seventh, 1:03.86) and
Megan Raab (eighth, 1:06.10).
Katie Anthony added a victory for Messiah in the 1500 Meter Run. She crossed the line in a new personal best time of 4:51.80. Joining her in the top ten were
Allison Keller (sixth, 5:41.71) and
Helen Blakesee (eighth, 5:47.38).
Two Falcons placed in the top five of the 100 Meter Hurdles.
Kara Brown claimed third with a time of 16.02. Joining her was
Claire Miller who crossed the line in 16.94 to earn fifth.
Connor Coggins earned second place in the 5000 Meter, crossing the line in 19:57.54.
Amber Swaisgood crossed the line in 20:51.16 to earn a ninth-place finish.
A pair of Falcons found themselves among the top ten finishers in the 3000 Meter Steeplechase.
Ali Schutte earned a third-place finish after completing the race in a time of 12:32.36.
Jillian Brotherton crossed the line in 13:58.53 to earn sixth.
In The Field
In an abbreviated Women's Javelin field, three Falcons were able to place and earn points towards the team's victory.
Natalie Hamlen ended the day in first with a throw of 23.26 meters. Closely behind her were Evangeline Soerens (21.69) and
Carolina Hatch (18.33) who earned third and fourth respectively.
Leah Ferster finished eighth in the Hammer Throw with a distance of 36.02.
Kara Brown claimed third in the High Jump, clearing a height of 1.47 meters.
Elena Vargas and
Natalie Hamlen both found themselves in the top five of the Long Jump. Vargas claimed third with a jump of 4.67 meters while Hamlen finished in fifth with a mark of 4.41 meters.
