READING, Pa. - The Messiah women's track and field team kicked off Day One of the Indoor MAC Championships at The Plex at Alvernia University on Friday afternoon. Highlights from Day One included a third-place finish in the 4x200 Meter Relay and three individuals advancing to finals in the 60 Meter and 60 Meter Hurdles tomorrow.
The day started with a fifth-place finish in the Distance Medley Relay for the team of
Amber Fogelsanger,
Kerrigan Lebo,
Laura Kruth, and
Katie Anthony. The team combined for a time of 13:05.23.
In the 60 Meter Hurdles,
Kara Brown ran a time of 9.58 to secure a spot in the finals Saturday afternoon.
Claire Miller finished just outside of finals in a time of 9.71, ending in ninth.
Clara Benner ran a lifetime personal best of 9.98.
A pair of Falcons qualified for Saturday's 60 Meter Dash final, claiming seventh and eighth place in Friday's preliminary.
Arwyn Gruenwald (seventh, 8.172) edged out teammate
Halle Jennett (eighth, 8.174) by two-thousandths of a second, each setting a new lifetime best time in the event. They will look to better their times in Saturday's final.
Emma Graybill finished 14th in a time of 8.34.
Ali Schutte highlighted the efforts of a mass of Falcons in the 5000 Meter. Schutte's time of 19:30.57 was the 12th fastest of the day. Additional Messiah runners were
Amber Swaisgood (19:42.14),
Teddi Powell (20:08.61),
Connor Coggins (20:21.73),
Kirsten Howland (20:25.44), and
Sarah Bath (20:51.65).
The team of Jennett, Graybill, Miller, and
Elena Vargas finished Day One for the Falcons with a third-place finish in the 4x200 Meter Relay, crossing the line in a time of 1:47.62.
Messiah is in ninth place after Day One with a team score of 10 points. Day Two of the Championship Meet will see the majority of events and kicks off at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
