Falcons Finish On Top At Messiah Invitational

GRANTHAM, Pa. - The Messiah Women's Track and Field team earned the victory at the Messiah Invitational, topping the other 21 teams. A final team score of 108 put them 10 points ahead of second place Frostburg State. Rounding out the Top Five were Misericordia (70), Pitt.- Johnstown (65), and Dickinson (63).

Friday Night
In the Discus Throw, Carolina Hatch finished with a mark of 24.00 meters. Kirsten Howland was one of two competitors in the Women's 10,000 Meter Run, competing alongside an Alumni teammate. She crossed the line in a time of 45:27.26.

Saturday Action
Highlighting the efforts on the track Saturday were Kate Dickow (4:47.62) and Katie Anthony (4:54.69) who earned second and third respectively in the 1500 Meter Run. Anthony's time was a new personal best in the event. Dickow added a sixth-place finish in the 800 Meter Run, crossing the line in a time of 2:23.35. In the 5,000 Meter, Anthony crossed the line in a time of 18:47.39 to earn second place.

The Falcons claimed three of the top eight spots in the 100 Meter Hurdle Finals. Kara Brown led the trio, earning fourth overall with a time of 15.96. Following closely behind her were Claire Miller (16.18) and Clara Benner (16.66), who earned fifth and sixth respectively. Miller and Benner ran new personal bests in the prelims and bettered those times in the finals, while Brown added a new personal best in the finals.

Clara Benner added a seventh-place finish in the 400 Meter Hurdles, crossing in the time of 70.33. Natalie Hamlen ran a new personal best of 73.46. Also competing for the Falcons were Kara Brown (73.61), Claire Miller (75.27), and Julia Rickard (77.32).

There were a number of new personal bests set in the sprints for the Falcons Saturday afternoon. Halle Jennett ran a new best in the 100 Meter prelims, crossing the line in 12.93 to earn seventh and a place in finals. She bettered her time in the finals to 12.77 to earn fifth overall. Arwyn Gruenwald added a new personal best time of 13.16 to finish in 16th.

The pair took to the 200 Meter together to collect two more personal bests. Jennett took third with a time of 23.95 while Gruenwald crossed the line in a time of 27.30.

The Falcons put three in the top ten of the 800 Meter with Kate Dickow leading the way in sixth, crossing in 2:23.35, earning a Middle Atlantic Conference Championships (MAC) qualifying time. Joining her in the top ten were Kathleen Walstrom (eighth, 2:27.86) and Olivia Cory (ninth, 2:28.81). Also running well for Messiah were Laura Kruth (2:31.02), Isabela Rodriguez (2:33.24), and Amber Fogelsanger (2:33.54).

Joining Dickow and Anthony who claimed second and third respectively in the 1500 Meter Run were Kathleen Walstrom who ran a season best of 5:05.73 and Amber Swaisgood who ran a new personal best of 5:18.74.

In addition to Katie Anthony's second-place finish in the 5000 Meter, Connor Coggins earned an eighth-place finish after putting in a time of 19:54.63.

Elena Vargas added another MAC qualifying performance in the 400 Meter Dash, crossing the line in a time of 60.73 to earn sixth. Emma Graybill finished in 10th, finishing in a time of 62.18. Kerrigan Lebo (62.75) and Cassidy Chandler (64.60) also ran well. 

Two Falcons earned MAC qualifying times in the 3000 Meter Steeplechase, with Ali Schutte earning second in a time of 12:29.32 and Sarah Bath earning seventh with a time of 13:41.95. Jillian Brotherton earned eighth, crossing the line in a time of 13:46.83, missing the MAC time by one second.

Messiah claimed top-five spots in each of the relays on the day. In the 4x100 Meter Relay, the team of Halle Jennett, Emma Graybill, Arwyn Gruenwald, and Claire Miller combined for a time of 50.65. Halle Jennett, Cassidy Chandler, Kerrigan Lebo, and Emma Graybill combined for a time of 4:14.20 to take third in the 4x400 Meter Relay. In the final event of the day, Laura Kruth, Olivia Cory, Julia Rickard, and Alyssa Nori combined for a time of 10:20.69 in the 4x800 Meter Relay to earn third.

Highlighting the throws for the Falcons was a trio of personal bests in the Javelin. Ruby Ramsey threw a two meter personal best in the event, finishing fifth with a toss of 34.70 meters. Evangeline Soerens threw a new best of 23.43 and Carolina Hatch threw a new best of 22.33. Brynn Gaugler finished in 14th with a throw of 29.15.

Leah Ferster added a new personal best in the Hammer, throwing 33.08 meters.

In the Jumps, Elena Vargas claimed second in the Triple Jump with a mark of 10.64. Emma Graybill added an MAC qualifying jump of 9.84.

Kara Brown claimed fifth in the High Jump, clearing a height of 1.51.

In the Pole Vault, Noelle Crowley led the way, finishing tied in ninth with a height of 2.82. Hannah Witter jumped 2.67 meters while Olivia Call jumped a season-best 2.67.
